Interesting read on two of Hollywood's biggest stars. Focused mostly on the years they worked together, amazing research on the movies they made together, and their relationships with the studio and the producers, directors, and other actors. Some books like this tend to be matter of fact and not an easy read, but this one has a narrative and tells the story in an informative way and moves at a nice pace. I found the detail around the studio process and the key players (Jack L Warner, Michael Curtiz, and Hal Wallis) and how they ran their business and controlled the actors fascinating. So much more different that today's studio system, where actors are all free agents from day 1. Errol and Oliva were basically managed by the studio, who assigned them to movies and roles for the life of the contracts they had signed. I found this book after reading "The Dutch Girl", also written by the same author about Audrey Hepburn's life growing up in the Netherlands during WW2. The amount of research and detail that goes into these two books is simply amazing; the notes and bibliography are pages long, and come from all types of sources (studio call sheets, other books, interviews from lots of sources over their lifetimes). Would highly recommend this book if you're a fan of either actor, or any of their movies, or if you just want to get a good background into how Hollywood worked, when the studio moguls ran it.
